Torquay Tour Match Reports

Gloucester’s B Squad took part in the Premier League South West 9s tournament in Bath on their way to the English Riviera and enjoyed a really successful day alongside eleven other district sides.

The city boys opened with a 1-0 victory over South Gloucestershire, Gloucester’s goal coming from Max Weatherley in a game dominated by the tourists and a second single goal success against Bath in a game of few real opportunities followed, Weatherley playing in Shiyak Sutherland for the decisive score.

A strong North Somerset really tested the city defence in match three, though Tom Collins and keeper Jacob Balkwill in particular stood firm before Jasper Elliott teed up Josh Mason to net his first goal in a Gloucester shirt to give his team another single goal victory.

Gloucester finished top of their group thanks to another narrow win, this time over eventual winners Potters Bar. The Londoners pounded the Gloucester goal from the outset, but great displays from Tyler Sallis, Jake Pinkney and Harry Williams prevented Bar from scoring

and it was the city side that nicked the win when Sutherland followed up a Max Knight effort to grab the points.

The semi final though proved just beyond the Gloucester boys in a reversal of their previous outing. Pinkney, Knight, Weatherley and Sutherland all saw efforts blocked before Summers netted at the other end to see West Wiltshire through to the final.

The exertions of the previous day caught up with the city squad as they took on Torbay the following morning, a late Weatherley free kick being the only real highlight in a 7-1 defeat to a Devon side that proved to be far more clinical on the day.

Gloucester B Tour Party: Balkwill; Sallis, Collins, Pinkney, Williams, Elliott, Knight, Mason, Sutherland, Weatherley.
